“I am rooted, but I flow. All gold, flowing that way.”
― Virginia Woolf, The Waves
How do we clearly see and meet the moments of our lives in the midst of all the joys and sorrows of being human? We can learn to cultivate the heart qualities of equanimity (upekkha) and care (or compassion, karuna).
These two brahmaviharas can help us find rootedness in the profound ability to make space for all of life - the despair, fear, contentment and boredom, uncertainty, joy - and because of that we can gently tend to the movements of the heart and mind.
Equanimity (acceptance) allows us to soften into the present moment just as it is and can be a grounding and steady energy that nourishes a caring heart and allows wise action to flow.
This daylong will include still and moving meditation practice, Dharma (wisdom) reflections, and time for community connection.
You are invited to co-create a community altar of remembering. Feel free to bring items that help you to remember and honor your intention for practice, your biological and/or spiritual ancestors and loved ones, and/or the Earth.
Fee: $25, plus Dana (donation) for the teacher. Scholarships are available. These fees only cover TCMC retreat expenses. The teacher receive no compensation from TCMC. You will have the opportunity to offer Dana (donation) to the teacher, a Buddhist tradition of generosity. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay.

Dalila Bothwell’s (she/her) Dharma-meditation practice lives at the intersection of love for community, land, social justice, and 12-step recovery. The granddaughter of Claudia and Gussie Pearl, she finds refuge and hope in the liberation teachings of revolutionary lovers - from the Buddha to bell hooks. During her nearly decade-long tenure as a director for New York Insight Meditation Center, she learned the priceless value of sangha and the role relationships play in embodying the teachings and in creating kinder human beings.
Dalila is a graduate of the Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leaders Program, formally educated in nutritional science and food studies and has served with the Buddhist Peace Fellowship, Insight Meditation Society, Spirit Rock and Dharma communities throughout North America. She loves dancing furiously in her kitchen and taking long walks in the desert with her handsome pup, Brisco. Dalila believes freedom is a holistic art.
