Minutes of the Board of Director's Meeting Tucson Community Meditation Center August 5, 2008, 5:30 pm Board members present: Blake Barton, Linda Bacon, Chuong Tran, Ying Lin, Debra Raeber, Frank Tomizuka Audience members: Wanda Poindexter, Terry Magee The minutes from the last meeting, June 3, 2008 were approved. There was no financial report. Call to the Audience: Terry asked the board if TCMC would rent space to Terry, Lhasha and Anna Douglas to teach classes in October. Arjahn, a Buddhist monk, came to the meeting to ask the board about using the center once a month for a guided meditation. He teaches Buddhism at a Thai temple in Tucson on West Bopp Rd and would like to have a place in town for his meditation group to meet. His meditation is based on Theravada Buddhism. He will personally attend each meeting. There would be about 25 people on one Saturday per month from 4:00 - 5:30 in the afternoon for a guided meditation. Arjahn does not ask for donations for himself, but he would ask people who attend for donations for TCMC. A motion was made and approved that TCMC allow Arjahn to bring his meditation group to the center on the 4th Saturday of the month from 4:00 - 5:30. TCMC would receive donations from the group. It will begin on the 4th Saturday of September. There was a discussion about approving Richard Shankman to teach a weekend retreat. He has been authorized by Spirit Rock and endorsed by Joseph Goldstein. He has a book coming out soon. There has not been a date set yet for the retreat but it would be a 3 day retreat with meditation. A motion was made and approved that we approve Richard Shankman as a teacher and invite him to come to TCMC and teach a workshop. There was a discussion about the hourly rate to charge teachers who would like to rent the center for a class. A motion was made and approved that the hourly rate to rent the center be $25 per hour up to 4 hours. Terry, Lhasha and Anna Douglas would like to rent the center on October 14, 21, 28, November 4, 11 for their upcoming class based on Phillip Moffitt's new book about the Four Noble Truths. There would also be a daylong retreat on November 15 or 16. A motion was made and approved that TCMC rent the center to Terry, Lhasha and Anna at the rate of $25 per hour and $125 for the daylong. Landscaping Day: There will be a gardening/clean up day on Saturday morning, August 9th at 7:00 am. Debra will put a notice in the enewsletter. The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 pm.
